Start of the ascent from Pen-y-pass car park, looking down towards Nant Peris where we had left our cars.
Looks clear doesn’t it!?
The mist starts to descend.
Heading for the Crib!
Lovely views!
A bit claggy up top!
The shale and scree pull up to the Crib.
And here comes Max! Good shot of him and the backbone of Crib Goch behind him.
That’s Max’s arm, I think, and Kirsch scrambling over the top of the ridge in her trainers! Brave girl!
Me on top of Crib Goch after the hardest part of the scramble. I didn’t find it scary but it was certainly hard work having to scramble and pull your body weight up, and it was even worse due to the constant wind and rain and enveloping clag!
Onward we scramble through the misty ridge! What views eh? Yeah exactly! WHAT VIEWS? Lol
At the end of the ridge we dropped down and found some shelter and ate our butties. Here’s Cogstar, Glyno and Kirsch in the nest looking a bit wet!
Some impressive mountain ridges.
Finally the mist began to clear and suddenly there were cracking views of Llyn Llydaw.
Now we started to descend the Llanberis path en route to meet Joe who had left us at Crib Goch (due to an ankle problem he’s been suffering from, so wise decision). We finally caught up with him and then started our descent off the mountain.
The views looking back towards Pen-y-pass were spectacular!
Here’s the gang trying to figure out where the hell we are and how the hell do we get down!
More impressive mountain scenery with Llyn Peris Reservoir in the distance.
Further views of Llyn Peris in the distance.
The group looking down and realising we are still high up and not sure how to get down! Note the puzzled stances.
Here’s Paul (Cogstar) coming down the non-existent path!
Looking back up the path we had just come down…well I think there was a path…somewhere!!
Views of Pen-y-pass becoming clearer as the afternoon wore on.
And now we can start to see terra firma.
It was around this point we saw a river below us and Kirsch was looking for a way across it because she wanted to do Elidir Fawr on the other side of it and the road. I said that ‘we will cross that bridge when we come to it’ which seemed to amuse some members of the group, and Joe said something about a ‘sawdust’ sandwich, and after some of the weather conditions we had endured and the steep and dodgy ‘no-path’ descent, a little jollity was most welcome!
This was a challenging walk for me. I’ve long wanted to do Crib Goch and people kept telling me not to do it when it was raining, windy, misty, or snowy! Well 3 out of 4 aint bad I suppose! Thanks to everyone for a good day, and especially to Max for the lift, the loan of his spare pair of jeans (due to my walking trousers being soaked!), and the cracking mugs of tea at his house before I went home.
All in all a great day in great company.
